THE INN'S BOUTIQUE
RESORT ACTIVITIES
Things to do in English Harbour
We take pride in The Inn being a small independent hotel with an intimate ambiance. When it comes to the land that the hotel occupies, though, as well as the available activities and amenities, The Inn at English Harbour is better described as a boutique resort.
Featuring two tennis courts, a spa, gym, freshwater pool, library, multiple dining outlets, prime beachfront location,
and proximity to an active yachting community, The Inn at English Harbour is Antigua’s best luxury hotel for active travellers. So, if you are someone who wants to truly experience a destination without compromising on luxury, let The Inn at English Harbour be your home base.
Adventure Awaits
Those seeking a tranquil oasis will find that here as well; the white sands and deep blue waters of Freemans Bay set the stage for total relaxation. Just beyond The Inn’s picturesque bay and lush hills, however, adventure awaits.
With an exclusive address in the quietly wealthy town of English Harbour, our guests are within minutes of Nelson’s Dockyard, Falmouth Harbour, and all the activities these charming areas have to offer.
Explore Underwater
Freeman's Bay is home to sea turtles, stingrays, small tropical fish, and a shipwreck for avid snorkelers to explore. Just outside the bay is Pillars of Hercules, a natural landmark that offers a stunning above-surface view and a spectacular underwater dive. The Inn provides snorkelling equipment for guests on a complimentary basis. Our team can arrange scuba dive excursions as well as PADI Certification's for an additional fee from nearby local dive shop,
Soul Immersions
Dive Center.
Explore Our Waters
If you prefer to take in the marine life from above water, explore Freemans Bay by kayak or stand-up paddle board. Paddle around the bay, between sail boats moored nearby, or even into Nelson’s Dockyard, and enjoy the stunning scenery. You may even be lucky enough to see a sea turtle surface as you cruise by.
Learn to Sail
Known around the world as a nautical paradise, Antigua is the sailing capital of the Caribbean. If you are looking for hotels for sailing holidays, there is no better choice than The Inn at English Harbour. Learn to sail with On Deck, a sailing school based in Falmouth Harbour.
The area's twin harbours, marinas, and constant tradewinds make Antigua one of the top destinations for sailing enthusiasts. The island is also a popular destination for kite surfing and wingfoiling. With three schools on island you'll be up on your board in no time!
Experience Antigua from the Water
Our private dock allows guests of The Inn to easily charter private boats for leisure cruising, deep sea fishing, sailing excursions, or day trips to Antigua’s sister island, Barbuda, home to a 17-mile beach, pink sands, and one of the most remote Nobu restaurants in the world.
With many reputable tour operators available in Antigua, like
Barefoot Antigua, Wadadli Cats, Adventure Antigua and more, our concierge team can assist you in selecting the best one to suit your needs.
Steps from the best
There are several beautiful hiking trails within walking distance of The Inn. Jones Valley Trail and Carpenter Loop (rated the number one trail on the island) begin just a few metres off the beach, at the base of The Inn. Along these trails you will come across some of Antigua's preserved ruins.
From these trails, guests can explore the famous Mermaid Pools and Pillars of Hercules. Shirley Heights Lookout Trail, and Middle Ground Trail (called the Goat Track by locals) are also close by.
For guests who prefer guided hikes, there are companies who offer this experience for an additional fee.
Try a Fitness Class
Currently, The Inn does not offer complimentary yoga or pilates classes, however, we can arrange for a private class in the Garden Lounge for an additional fee. We recommend Ros Yoga Antigua for yoga classes and Reform Health Antigua with Abby for pilates and physiotherapy services respectively.
Alternatively, guests may wish to visit
Energie, English Harbour’s local yoga retreat centre and gym which offers a range of classes in an open air studio with views overlooking Falmouth Harbour.
Nearby Activities
When we say adventure awaits, think of authentic experiences and local immersion. Sample a savoury roti from a quintessentially Caribbean chattel house. Meander through lush landscapes, along barely-marked hiking trails that lead to stunning vistas. Explore the island's rich history with guided tours and rum tastings.
Or take a water taxi to the small, but thriving and diverse communities of Nelson’s Dockyard and Falmouth Harbour. More of a thrill-seeking adventurer? Consider zip-lining in Antigua or charter a sailboat when the winds are high. These are just a few ideas for things to do in English Harbour that we’d be happy to help you plan.
Caribbean History
Learn about Antigua’s maritime heritage with a visit to Nelson’s Dockyard. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a vibrant testament to the island's nautical history, meticulously restored to its former glory. Seamlessly blending historic charm with modern conveniences, Nelson’s Dockyard features a number of boutiques, restaurants, and a museum within its Georgian-era buildings.
One of the highlights of staying at The Inn is the convenience of taking a water taxi to Nelson’s Dockyard or the neighbouring slipway. Enjoy lunch next to the Boat House Pillars, one of Antigua’s most recognizable landmarks. Or walk to Falmouth Harbour, stopping along the way for classic rum cocktails, local crafts, or a casual dinner at any one of the many restaurants.
An Absolute Must
If there is one experience you should not leave Antigua without, it is visiting Shirley Heights Lookout. From atop this ridge, take in Antigua’s most iconic view: the jagged coastline, deep ocean blues, shimmering waters of Freemans Bay, white sands of Freeman's Bay, and the distant rolling hills all around and beyond Falmouth Harbour. Every Sunday, with few exceptions since 1981, the National Park hosts a sunset party here, complete with barbecue, steel band, live performers, and local artisans.
This party has been so popular for so long, that a second, smaller event is hosted on Thursday evenings for those who want the view, the steel band, and the sunset, without the crowds. Seeking something even quieter? Shirley Heights Lookout is the locally-owned bar and restaurant that sits atop the cliff and is open for lunch or dinner.
